About Coach

When I was on my high school's cross country and track teams, I learned just how much I could improve my own performance by being part of group that challenged each other during workouts and then cooperated during competitions. Having a coach that pushed the whole team to do more than we thought we could do was a memorable and formative experience. During my adult years I have done a variety of things to keep in shape, including playing basketball, running, rowing, and lifting weights. I competed in running and rowing races for motivation, but mostly trained on my own. I tried all kinds of group classes, but nothing ever really stuck until I tried CrossFit. That was the first time I felt something like what I experienced on my first high school cross country team. For me, that combination of training in a small group with some friendly competition while seeing measurable improvements in my performance was something that I had been missing, and eight years later I'm still doing CrossFit.

Turning Point

Eventually I decided that I wanted to try to help other people discover some of the benefits that I got from CrossFit, and in May, 2022 I got my CF-L1 and starting coaching occasionally. In late 2022 the opportunity to purchase the gym I had been working out in arose, and I decided that I wanted to try to build it into an even stronger community. Early in 2023 I got my CF-L2 and re-affiliated the gym with CrossFit and rebranded to Blue River CrossFit.

Motivation & Passion

I believe that humans need to move in order to be healthy and happy. Cardiovascular fitness and bone health are critical to avoiding serious losses in quality of life as one ages. CrossFit is certainly not the only way to achieve health and fitness, but I believe it is scalable to anyone so it can help anyone. My goal is to make Blue River CrossFit the most welcoming gym you've ever encountered so that we can help as many people as possible, regardless of background or current fitness level, to see measurable benefits in fitness and health.
